Railsponsible @ InnoTrans, UIC and UNEP’s 10YFP

Looking back at 2016 we also had plenty of opportunities to directly discuss and promote sustainable supply chains with key industry stakeholders at forums such as the Sustainable Development Conference of the  International Union of Railways (UIC), the Rail Industry Summit Casablanca, the Railway Forum in Berlin and InnoTrans, to name just a few.

For example, during Railsponsible’s Annual Forum at InnoTrans on September 21st, hosted by UNIFE, the initiative proudly awarded its first ever Railsponsible CSR awards. The Chief Procurement Officers and Executives of Alstom, Deutsche Bahn, Knorr-Bremse and SNCF personally recognized Infineon and IBRE as best-in-class suppliers with regards to their sustainability performance.

In October, Amandine Noureldin (Alstom) presented Railsponsible’s activities at the 13th UIC Sustainable Development Conference in Vienna. During a workshop with high profile experts and practitioners from the railway sector including Sanjay Kumar, ‎Sustainable Procurement at the Indian Ministry of Railway, Dr. Farid Yaker, UNEP Programme Officer, Ferdinand Zinsmeister, ÖBB-Infrastruktur, and David Mc Clintock, EcoVadis participants discussed about the potential of Railsponsible as a unique initiative to accelerate the implementation of sustainable sourcing practices throughout the tiers of the railway sector’s supply chain.

As a tangible outcome of this discussion, and following up Dr. Farid Yaker’s invitation, Railsponsible is now considering to join the Sustainable Public Procurement Program of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the so-called 10YFP. More on this will follow shortly!
